Strength & conditioning in Heaton Mersey, Manchester

Training towards a standard, not just a session.

Strength & conditioning describes what the training is for: getting stronger, better conditioned and more capable of what you are preparing for.

The training

Qualities, planned deliberately.

Strength and conditioning work is programmed rather than assembled session by session. Strength work develops through planned loading; conditioning is chosen to match what you are training for rather than added on for its own sake.

What you are preparing for shapes the plan: a sport, an event, a physical standard, or simply being stronger and better conditioned than you are now. That, your training history and how you move decide the exercise selection.

  • Strength developed through planned progression across a training block
  • Conditioning selected for the demands you are training towards
  • Exercise selection matched to how you move and what you can train
  • Technique coached in the session, not left to the plan alone
  • The block reviewed and adapted from your own training

How it is delivered

Coached in person, either way.

Strength & conditioning is coached in our facility. Whether that works best one-to-one or in a small group depends on what you are preparing for and how you prefer to train, and it is settled in the consultation rather than fixed in advance here.

Worth knowing

  • Training is planned in blocks with a purpose
  • Progress can mean consolidating as readily as adding load
  • The plan adapts around how you respond to it

This is coaching, not medical care, and not a rehabilitation service. If you have an injury, a health condition or symptoms, speak to a qualified healthcare professional.

The coaching system

How the coaching works.

The same six stages sit behind every service. They describe how training is planned and kept moving, and they are separate from the enquiry sequence below.

  1. Assess

Start from what you are training towards, where your training is now, and what it has to work around.

  2. Programme

Turn that into a plan: exercise selection, loading, session structure and how the training develops.

  3. Coach

A coach is with you in the session, setting the work up and correcting how you are moving while you train.

  4. Track

What actually happens in your training informs the next decisions rather than a template deciding them.

  5. Adapt

Adjust the plan around how you respond to it and what your circumstances allow.

  6. Progress

Develop the training towards your goals over time. Progress can mean consolidating or easing off as readily as adding load.
